The Brief

An Avatar is a form of digital identity in virtual worlds. VRM is a platform-independent file format designed for use with 3D characters and avatars in the modern metaverse landscape.

Design an VRM Avatar for use across the Metaverse.

We are looking for avatars designed around one or more of the following categories:

Avatars For Fashion. Design gathering spaces to meet & share big ideas.

Avatars Created with AI. Design an Avatar assisted by AI-generated imagery.

Avatars Inspired by Communities. Create an Avatar based off an existing community or PFP projects, bringing characters like Bored Apes to life.

Prizes

There is $10,000 of prize money up for grabs. The top 15 Avatars will be minted as NFT and purchased for the following prize amounts: 1 Grand Prize of $2,000, a fashion prize, ai-inspired prize, and a Community design prize each of $1,000.

Additionally, there are 10 bonus prizes totaling $4,000, including most technical avatar ($500), best non-humanoid ($500), Memevatar ($500), the Halloween Prize ($500) and 6 creator prizes of $250.

Judging

The judging will be centered around the design of Avatars, but the aesthetic interpretation is where you can let your imagination run free.

The VRM Avatar Challenge will be judged by a panel of industry experts, that will be announced in September. The VRM challenge brings together community and community leaders to explore identity and freedom in the metaverse. In a unique judging format, each category is ‘chaired’ by a community leader judge who guides their fellow judges through the process - facilitating the selections. The group then gives a (short) statement about their process and their choices.
